Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria are a set of standards for a company’s operations that socially conscious investors use to screen potential investments. Environmental criteria consider how a company performs as a steward of nature. Social criteria examine how it manages relationships with Nature, employees, suppliers, customers, and the communities where it operates. Governance deals with a company’s leadership, executive pay, audits, internal control, and shareholder rights.

ESG investing or sometimes referred to as sustainable investing, impact investing, or socially responsible investing (SRI). Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Criteria for Assesment

there are 3 main component for ESG implementation-the environmental, social, and governance aspects.

Environmental criteria may include a company’s energy use, water treatment, product process residue, waste, natural resource conservation, and treatment of animals. This Criteria can be used in evaluating any environmental risks company might face and how the company is managing those risks.
Social Ciretia looks at how company business integrates with local communities and synergy with stakeholders. Does the company work with supplier hold the same values as it claims to hold? Does the company make an impact from its profit to local community or encourage employees to do volunteer work there ? Do the company implement safe working conditions for its employee’s health and safety ? are other stakeholders’ interests take into account?
Some stakeholders such as an investor, may want to know that a company uses accurate and transparent accounting methods and that stockholders are allowed to vote on important issues. And in some cases, they may also want assurances that companies avoid conflict of interest in their choice of board members, didn’t use political contributions for favorable treatment, and engage in illegal practices
